2:00PM This year's "Top 8" did a great job of turning back the clock and taking us down music's memory lane with Motown hits like "Natural Woman", Proud Mary", and "Dancing in the Streets". Each contestant sang two songs each, and the judges scores and comments were pretty consistent. We are down to the cream of the crop, so it's becoming more and more important for the contestants to choose songs that are appropriate for their tone and vocal range, as well as to really interact with the audience by engaging them in the performance. We enjoyed an amazing performance by one of our judges: Teresa Davis. Her talent is amazing and we're so glad that she is bringing that talent to our competition by way of, along with our other judges, challenging the contestants to grow as performers. This week, our contestants are preparing to bring you the top hits from the Country Music Charts! Be sure to come on Friday to check it out, and to vote for your favorite contestant!

After two weeks of
competition, we're down to our Top 10! So far, Russell Cook, Billy
Covert, Lauren Hughes, Lindsay Johnson, Jamie Ricketts, Kenny Seale,
Morgan Simpson, Amanda Stewart, Lynette Wilcox and Kristy Wilkins have
risen to the top and are moving forward in the competition to try and
win the title of the 2009 Southside Superstar! It appears that our audience has grown some, and here's the best part -- the fundraiser has already earned over $3,000! Will you help us reach our goal?? A special thank you to Amanda Thornton for helping us out this week as a substitute judge. June was unable to be with us, but will be back for the rest of the competition! So. If you've been coming, great. If not, you have to. Come check us out this Friday, 7pm, Danville City Auditorium, $2 admission, $1 per vote. See you Friday!

2:00PM This year, the process of deciding who will represent our region as Southside Superstar, will be guided by Tony Gioia. Tony and his wife have been in the area for the past year or so, but he is certainly no stranger to being on stage. He's been in tons of theater productions, provided voice-overs for a long list of commercials, and can even be found on the big screen as an extra in movies like "Wedding Crashers", "Syriana", and "Body of Lives". His excitement and charisma are contagious and his passion for the work that PATHS does is exemplary. Our judging panel brings a combination of new faces and experienced talent. You may remember Teresa Davis from last year's grand finale event. She's a business owner (check her out at "Heads Up Styling Salon") but brings over 30 years of vocal performance with her to the judge's table. June Hill, a Ringgold native and Assistant Administrator for a local assisted living facility, loves her time with her family, reading and watching NASCAR, but her love of music is what has brought her to the forefront of the Southside Superstar competition. Then there's Thomas Martin: he's a country boy at heart who has grown up singing. He's performed for over 20 years throughout the south-east, and has spent a lot of time as a contestant in competitions just like Southside Superstar. He knows all about the courage that it takes to stand up and - not only perform - but actually be judged on that performance. He looks forward to spending time on the other side of the judging table and will surly provide feedback that all our performers can use in a positive way as they move through the competition, and even beyond. Everyone, including our onstage staff, supports the work of PATHS and has a sincere heart to ensure that PATHS' accomplishes it's vision and mission of ensuring quality access to health care for everyone in our region, regardless of their ability to pay.
